Margaret Mead (December 16, 1901 – November 15, 1978) was an American anthropologist known for controversial views on sexuality. During her career, she advocated for a wide variety of social issues such as women's rights, race relations, environmental pollution, world hunger, and nuclear proliferation. Her research in the South Pacific and Southeastern Asia is thought to be an influence on the American sexual revolution of the 1960s.
